Lateral Thinking: “A way of thinking that seeks a solution to a problem through unorthodox methods or elements that would normally be ignored by logical thinking.” (Oxford English Dictionary)
According to Dr. Edward de Bono, there are two types of thinking. He calls one "vertical thinking" that is, using step-by-step logic. He calls the other "lateral thinking" which involves disrupting an apparent normal-thinking sequence and arriving at the solution from another angle.
Developing the breakthrough ideas does not have to be the result of luck or shotgun effort. Lateral Thinking provides a proven, sound and deliverable systematic creativity process that will result in innovative thinking.
While the term Lateral Thinking is often ill-defined and often misused, it is in fact a creative process that empowers people by adding strength to their natural abilities, a process that improves creativity, innovation and one which leads to increased productivity and profits.
Today better service and quality along are not enough. Creativity and innovation are the only competencies that will drive lasting, global success.
Our minds have been trained to find typical and predictable solutions to issues. This leads to thinking “inside the box” and to entrapment in paradigms. Lateral Thinking shows us how to get outside the box and to create and innovative breakthroughs.
